The Earl Lloyd Scholarship Fund provides financial support to children of Legends of Basketball members, funded through an annual gift from the NBA Players Legacy Fund directed toward low-income recipients.
Earl Francis Lloyd broke the NBA color barrier on October 31, 1950, playing against the Rochester Royals. Nicknamed "The Big Cat," Lloyd was born April 3, 1928, in Alexandria, Virginia. He played collegiately at West Virginia State College and had a nine-season NBA career (1950–1961) with the Washington Capitols, Syracuse Nationals, and Detroit Pistons.
$45,000 in restricted gifts each year, supporting low-income recipients.
