ABA Veteran · 3× Division II Champion · Franchise Entrepreneur
George Wm. Tinsley, Sr. (born September 19, 1946, Louisville, KY) grew up in Louisville's Smoketown neighborhood and became one of the most dominant players in Division II basketball history. At Kentucky Wesleyan College, he helped the team win three national championships in four years, earning All-American honors twice and being named Most Outstanding Player of the 1969 championship tournament.
His professional playing career took him to the American Basketball Association, where he played for three teams including the Kentucky Colonels. But it was what Tinsley built after basketball that truly defines his legacy: one of the most successful minority-owned franchise operations in American business history.
George joined KFC as Training Director in 1976 and met Colonel Harland Sanders personally — an encounter that shaped his business philosophy. By 1984, he was a franchisee, and he never stopped growing. His company, PenGeo, Inc. (part of Tinsley Family Companies), eventually operated more than 60 franchise units across multiple major brands. His TGI Friday's location at Tampa International Airport ranked #1 in the entire TGI Friday's system for nine straight years.
Today George is an in-demand motivational speaker and business consultant, sharing the lessons of championship sports and entrepreneurial excellence at events nationwide.
